Nurse Graduate Program 

MISSION

The Nursing Department of the East Wimmera Health Service is committed to the provision of quality care to the community, and the provision of ongoing education for nursing staff that ensures best practice.

Philosophy 
The philosophy of the Graduate Nurse Program reflects the mission of the nursing service, with emphasis being placed on newly registered nurses. We believe that the Graduate Nurse will consolidate skills and learning in a caring and supportive environment. Graduates will be given every opportunity to develop as a member of a health care team and to recognise their responsibilities in caring for patients/clients, carers, peers and the community.

Aim 
To provide a theoretical and clinical development program that facilitates the Graduate Nurse in:

 ·                Consolidating theoretical knowledge

 ·                Developing a broad range of nursing skills

 ·                Developing organisational and prioritisation skills

Objectives 
To promote the Graduate Nurse’s understanding and application of the nursing process.

To develop the Graduate Nurse’s knowledge and application of legal rights and responsibilities.

To promote the Graduate Nurse’s involvement in professional activities, such as staff meetings, accreditation processes.

To facilitate the Graduate Nurse consolidating clinical knowledge and skills within a preceptorship framework. 

Clinical Experience
 
As an integral part of the nursing team,  you will gain a broad range of clinical experiences accross a wide spectrum health domains.

Theoretical Program 
Participants are supported in the theoretical component of the Program through the development of individual learning plans, attendance at relevant EWHS education program activities and by linking in with the theoretical component of the Graduate Nurse Program at a regional healthcare facility .
