The Soldiers Memorial Park in the centre of town, with its large and shady Moreton Bay figs, also makes a pleasant spot for a picnic. At the front of the park you can see Birchip's memorial to their sodiers.
North-west, on the road to Mildura near Kinnabulla, is the 221-mile peg a remnant of the massive dog fence, constructed in 1883 in order to keep rodents out of the area.

Birchip History Museum
The Museum is located in the former Birchip Courthouse (brick building). Exhibits include an Alston windmill, police cell, domestic small agricultural equipment, sport and leisure, clothing, war memorabilia displays in attractive glass cabinets, photo and other document displays in a neat and tidy museum.
Birchip Historical Society Inc
The Society aims to collect and preserve the history of Birchip and the local district, and assist family researchers in their quest for knowledge of their ancestors who once lived in the area through the use of local resources such as newspapers, photos, school and church histories etc.
The Birchip town is well serviced by retail shops for everyday needs and also has a Post Office and local government Agency. Facilities include a large recreational lake, Lake Tchum, just 9km east from the town. Power boating, skiing, canoeing, swimming, fishing and camping are just some of the recreational activities available at this picturesque location. The northern tip of the lake remains undisturbed and is a haven for many different bird species.

The Leisure Centre in town is recently completed and offers extensive indoor and outdoor sports; swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, barbecues, sports oval and golf course. Netball, hockey and football are also popular.

Educational needs are well provided by a Kindergarten, prep to Year 12 State School, with excellent facilities; it was awarded best in the State 1997 and best in the Wimmera/Mallee 1998. This school has excellent computer facilities, comprising 72 computers all on the Internet. Other educational facilities are a Catholic primary school and an Adult Learning Group.

Birchip enjoys hot, dry summers, beautiful autumns, mild winters and glorious springs. The national Grampians parks of Hattah and Wyperfield are just a couple of hours away providing an opportunity to experience the richness of desert life, or mountain ranges of the Grampians
