WHAT IS HEALTH PROMOTION?
Health Promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. To reach a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, an individual or group must be able to identify and to realise aspirations, to satisfy needs, and to change or cope with the environment. Health promotion is not just the responsibility of the health sector, but goes beyond healthy lifestyles to wellbeing of communities, which includes many other sectors.

EWHS have identified its current Health Promotion priorities areas as:
Improving physical health through physical activity and access to
                healthy food choices

Strengthening social connections and mental wellbeing

Developing partnerships with health service providers, business,
community groups and individuals by working together to
                achieve local healthy communities

WHEN SHOULD I CONTACT THE HEALTH PROMOTION COORDINATOR?

The Health Promotion Coordinator can be contacted by members of the community that identify health issues or needs within the community. The Health Promotion Coordinator works closely with the Community Health Nurses and other primary care staff to engage the community to develop and implement health programs that will improve all aspects of health – physical, social and mental wellbeing.

Some successful Health Promotion programs within the Buloke Shire include the “Down Your Size” Program in Donald, Wycheproof and Charlton; Sustainable Farming Families in Birchip and Donald; Fitness Leader training; Health Screening Services and Mental Health First Aid.

If you see a health related issue in the community, or a need that continuously arises in the community, this may be a problem worth mentioning to the Health Promotion Coordinator. Lets work together!
